Can you believe I thought of this painting over a year ago and only now have had the time to bring it to fruition? I will need to get a better photo once we get some sun here in Michigan, but overall I am really excited with how this piece turned out! I will be putting this up for auction Sunday night around 9pm EST. Hopefully the right collector or Scottie dog lover will appreciate all the time and detail that went into this piece!

These lovely dogs were quite a pair. They belong to a friend of mine, Laurie, who also has Morgans. She wasn't sure about this photo as something to work from, but I just loved it. It is very natural and so unlike the "posed" photos so often used.

This is pastel, conte and oil pencil, 11 x 15", on black charcoal paper.

This is Dutchess and Becky, owned by a good friend Debbie Hendrickson in Ohio. Debbie and I had discussed this "morning glory" painting for a couple of years. Finally this year Dutchess's seventh birthday rolled around, and we decided to go for it! This is about 12 x 15" on a watercolor block.

It's been awhile since I've done a vintage inspired dog portrait, so I decided to paint one this past week. I decided on a Westie as I find them so fun to paint, and with a name like 'Baron von Gizmo II' how could I resist?! This piece may already be spoken for, but if not, it will become available in the next couple of days. Keep in mind only 11 weeks remain until the holidays!;)

I'll need to get a better photo of this piece as soon as the sun makes an appearance today, but I think I am finished. I ended up removing what was a bannister from a porch on the right of the painting because it just didn't seem to add anything to the composition and may have, in fact, been a bit distracting. I wanted the focus to be on Abby & Ivy, so I also lightened up the background a bit. Overall I am really pleased with how this piece turned out! Both these girls are such beautiful dogs, it's been a pleasure having them spend some time with me in my studio :) If you are interested in having a painting done of your pet, feel free to email me!

(*Update: I replaced the photo, but I still feel the piece looks much more vibrant in person :)

Linda MacDonald over at Restyled Home asked me to do a painting of his pup, Oscar, for him and his wife as they were coming to her home for a photo shoot as they are launching a new magazine soon called Flea Market Style! This is a gorgeous Australian Cattle Dog named Bailey...I absolutely LOVE the colors in a Cattle Dog's fur...it's one of God's masterpieces for sure!

Here is a little bit about Bailey:

We got Bailey 12 years ago from East Texas. She had been under a house that caught on fire. The mama dog pulled her out along with the rest of the pups too. She is well behaved, playful and makes us smile as she always has a smile on her face. She loves to cool her paws in the pool on hot Texas days. She is also the peacekeeper among our dogs (we have 3). She is very loyal and keeps a constant eye on our 9 year old twins whenever they play outside.
She is our Bailey aka Bay Bay and we love her very much!

With our recent move among other things, I fell a bit behind in commissions but was finally able to get this piece finished for the winner of the past Charity Picnic/Auction held by Westie Rescue of OC & Beyond. I wanted the focus to stay on the Westie in this piece so I made sure to keep the banister a bit of a muted shade of white such that the Westie would in many ways 'pop' out of the painting. I may replace the photo in the next day or two as it is quite windy here in Michigan and I don't want to risk taking this piece outside to photograph as it is still wet. As usual it is a beautiful cloudy day here in Michigan so I have not been able to get a good photo of this Westie portrait for the director of Westie Rescue of OC & Beyond...I know I should embrace the grey skies and somehow be thankful for them, but doggone it, it's supposed to be summer already!@#! Anyway, check back in the next day or two and hopefully the sun will cooperate and allow me to take a better photo. (Westie Commissioned Portrait in Oil...In Progress)

Today was a good day, I'm starting to feel a bit better after my recent dental work and was able to get some more work done on this Westie commissioned portrait I started a few weeks ago. I actually have four Westie portraits that I'm working on...I'm thinking pretty soon I may just start to get type-cast as the 'Westie artist', not that I would mind, I really enjoy painting Westies :o) I don't actually own a Westie, my Godmother does, and I have done charity work for a number of Westie rescue groups, but my 2 dogs are not too fond of the smaller pups. I actually have a New Zealand Huntaway/Kelpie (Taffy) and a Yellow Lab/Stumpy-Tailed Red Heeler (Jedha). Both were rescued off the streets of Cairns in Australia by my Aussie husband. We had them flown to Michigan last July all the way from Sydney as we would never have dreamed of leaving them behind!Their blog is Aussie Dogs Up & Over~Jedha & Taffy's Adventures in America :o)
